Stud bolt caps for Trianel

Stud bolt caps for an established player in the energy market

Customer’s challenge

Trianel GmbH has become an established player in the liberalized electricity and gas markets since their founding in 1999. Trianel was founded to bundle the interests of municipal utilities and strengthen their independence and competitiveness in the energy market. Trianel provides holistic solutions for optimizing business processes in generation, trading and energy procurement and sales. Trianel's goal is to ensure a decentralized energy supply that is close to citizens and customers.

Trianel wanted to build an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. This wind farm is called Wind Farm Borkum II. It will involve a total of 40 wind turbines with Trianel setting a requirement that each wind turbine must have a lifetime of 30 years. These wind turbines will be installed in the sea and therefore the steel will be continuously corroded by the sea and the wind. This causes the corrosion rate to be very high. This was a challenge for Trianel. The fasteners of the steel structures had to be protected. Without protection or with a standard coating they will only last 5 to 10 years. Large parts are already protected by coatings but these are too thick for the fasteners of the steel structures. Trianel was looking for a low-cost solution to protect the steel structures for 30 years. We have advised Trianel in choosing the right solution, of which we have a lot of experience. We have accompanied the client up to and including the delivery.

The sales process

Trianel was looking for a solution to protect their fasteners from the corrosion in its worst form due to the wind turbines being installed at sea. Trianel conducted research online and approached us. Together we went into a process in which we advised Trianel on how to tackle their challenge as efficiently as possible while keeping costs as low as possible. Trianel came to the conclusion that they were going to use stud bolt caps for the protection of their fasteners. In the Benelux, we are the only supplier allowed to sell stud bolt caps. Trianel was satisfied with the cooperation and decided to do business with us.

The solution from HBS Solutions

Within HBS Solutions, we have extensive experience with this type of client challenge and can advise the client on the most suitable solution. We set up the process in such a way that resources are applied that deliver the intended result and at the same time provide a cost saving for the client. The fasteners for the steel structures had to have an operational lifetime of 30 years. To provide this, we chose Stud bolt caps [https://admin.hbssolutions.eu/en/products/stud-bolt-caps/] with a zinc-plated PTFE Xylan [https://admin.hbssolutions.eu/en/products/ptfe-xylan-1070-1424/] 1424 coating. This solution was the best fit for the situation and the design of Trianel's wind turbines. The customer was very satisfied with the solution we offered. This has provided them with a considerable cost saving. In addition, Trianel could haverealized a wind turbine with an operational lifetime of 30 years with the certainty that the parts will also last 30 years.
